What are the two main types of Termites in Namibia?
1. HARVESTER TERMITES
Harvester termites are commonly found outside since they feed on dead and living plant materials such as grass, leaves, twigs, and seedlings. Harvester Termites can cause rapid destruction to lawns, gardens and vegetation. A nest can contain multiple queens, each capable of laying up to 2000 eggs per day and are prevalent most regions in Namibia.

Next you need to know what chemical (or natural remedy) will work for your problem.
And finally you need to apply the remedy without harming other useful insects like bees and earth worms OR the rest of your garden.

2. SUB-TERRANEAN TERMITES
The Sub-Terranean Termite is smaller than the Harvester, but a lot more dangerous in terms of potential damage. These termites build distinctive tunnels, often referred to as “mud tubes,” to reach food sources and protect themselves from open air. They eat wood 24 hours a day, seven days a week, using their saw-toothed jaws to bite off small fragments of wood one piece at a time. Over time, subterranean termites can critically damage a building structure, sometimes causing a total collapse.
Signs of Sub-Terranean Termites:

How do I kill Sub-Terranean Termites?
The best method of subterranean termite control is prevention first and foremost. Avoid water accumulation near the home’s foundation, as these pests are attracted to moisture. Divert water away with properly functioning downspouts, gutters and splash blocks. Reduce humidity in crawl spaces with proper ventilation. Never bury wood scraps or waste lumber in the yard. Additionally, be sure to seal cracks and crevices in the home’s foundation to keep termites out. Most importantly, eliminate wood contact with the soil, and maintain a one-inch gap between the soil and wood portions of the building.
CAN I DO IT MYSELF?
Termite infestations are not typically something that can be eradicated though DIY measures. If you suspect you have a termite infestation, you’re going to need to call a professional licensed pest control company, who will assess the damage and put together an appropriate treatment plan. Its important to use experienced pest controllers who understand the habits of termites and the safest and most effective way to treat them.
